Hi – A Crate Colour Challenge Card & My Hen Party

Hi! How are you doing today? Right now I’m madly packing as I’m going away this weekend… for my hen party (bachelorette night)!

If you are a regular reader you’re probably confused – haven’t I been married for nearly 5 years? Yes! And no, I’m not getting married again!

I shall tell you more further on in this post, after I’ve shown you this card. It’s for the current Crate Paper Creative Weekly Challenge – to use shades of one colour and a collage composition on a project:

Hi Card by Jennifer Grace using Crate Paper

I love this shade of bluey-green. I pulled bits from a variety of Crate collections, including the deer journaling card from Acorn Avenue, and a speech bubble cut from a piece of DIY Shop paper. The white cardstock is inked at the edges with Heidi Swapp ‘Mint’ Color Spritz, I love the smudgy look!

So why am I going to my hen party 5 years after getting married?

When me and the wonderful hubby got married our little girl was 2 months old, and my best friend Rosie had been away travelling for a year (she got back less than a week before my wedding). So I didn’t have a lot of energy or opportunities for a Hen Party before the wedding. The night before the wedding we had a girls night, but it was in the same manor house as the boys night, and as I was breastfeeding my daughter and therefore not drinking alcohol, and my Nan and Granny were at the girls night, unsurprisingly a lot of my young girly friends went off to party at the stag do instead!

At the time I didn’t mind too much – I was super happy to be getting married and to have a lovely baby daughter. But I was kind of gutted to miss out on that night of fun and it being all about me! Since I organised Rosie’s Hen Weekend in 2011, she kept saying she wanted to arrange a belated one for me. So that’s what she did! This weekend 8 of us are descending on an unsuspecting English city. It will be quite calm and collected for a hen party I should think. But I know we are going to have an awesome time, enjoying a spa, going out dressed in masquerade masks, and doing a bit of scrapbooking! I know Rosie has a few surprises up her sleeve too!

I’m sure I shall be telling you all about it on Monday! In the meantime you can keep an eye on My Instagram Feed for photos!

Have you ever been to a hen night, either your own, or for someone else? Did you love it or hate it? Wish me luck! x

Counterfeit Kit Member’s Blog Hop

(Did you miss my giveaway? See it HERE!)

Today is the Counterfeit Kit Challenge Member’s Blog Hop for April! If you want to learn more about this you can head back to to the start at the CKCB HERE. If you are hopping along you should have arrived via the lovely Julie at Spend Less Craft More, and I shall send you onwards at the end of my post!

This is my layout based on the inspiration photo from Challenge #1

Hello Daffodils:

Hello Daffodils by Jennifer Grace

Everything is from my April Counterfeit Kit and Gold Add-On, except the sheet of green cardstock.

Here’s the inspiration photo…

I used the colour scheme and the fact that there’s more ‘white’ space on the left hand side.

This photo of my daughter in the yellow daffodils was perfect, as they look like the yellow flowers in the inspiration photo, and it gave me a great reason for a bold pop of yellow on my page:

Hello Daffodils by Jennifer Grace

I used one of my handmade tidbits, layered up with tags, a doily, and some word beads, to add lots of interest:

When the layout was very nearly finished I realised I hadn’t used any stamps, and I keep adding stamps to my kits because I want to use them more. So I stamped this pointing hand to start my journaling and I love it!

Hello Daffodils by Jennifer Grace

The journaling reads: ‘We were driving home from a car boot sale and I spotted this patch of daffodils. There were so many and they looked so bright and happy, I had to stop and take a photo of you in them. You were being very careful not to tread on any, but you didn’t want to leave – you wanted to play hide and seek in the trees!’

What do you think of the layout? It ended up quite busy-looking for my current style, but I kind of like it, and I’m pleased to have used the blue and red patterned paper at the top, which has been in my stash for ages!

Now you need to hop onwards to the wonderful Jemma at Just JimJams.

Here’s the full hop order in case you get lost:

Counterfeit Cards + Giveaway Winner!

I made these cards for a couple of birthdays last week, both using my April Counterfeit Kit and Add On.

I layered up the doilies on this one, I love how my handmade tidbit looks in the centre:

Jenny, today is your day by Jennifer Grace

The gold heart and sequins don’t show up very well on the below photo, but I assure you they looked luxurious in real life! This card was for my best friend Rosie, and she said her favourite bit about it was the strip of elephants at the top:

I also made her a few handmade presents, though I didn’t photograph them all. I decorated a mug for her, and added some buttons to some hair pins and paperclips following this tutorial – it’s something I’m definitely going to do more of, as it was so quick and helped me use up some of my gigantic button stash!

I also made her this Bunny Rabbit Pendant using Frosted Shrinkles and some pro-markers:

Sadly one of Rosie’s bunny rabbits died the next day, after a fox got in to her garden. I hope the necklace helps her remember her lovely Bertie bunny 😦

And now to announce the winner of the giveaway I held to celebrate this new blog…

Corina Thorne!

Corina you are the lucky winner, I’ve sent you an email! Sorry to those who didn’t win, but don’t despair… there will be another giveaway towards the end of this week.

Bye for now, x

Dig Deep Layout

Good morning! It feels like spring is never going to arrive, let alone summer… the weather is still cold and grey here. I really really can’t wait until the sun comes out and we can head to the beach! I’ve been scrapping last summer’s photos to remind me that it will warm up eventually…

Dig Deep:

Dig Deep by Jennifer Grace using Glitz Uncharted Waters

A friend took this photo of my son investigating a hole – I’m the one with the dark yellow sleeve trying to stop him falling into it – it’s deeper than it looks!

I used a ton of Glitz Uncharted Waters. By the sea is my favourite place to be, so this collection makes me feel very happy!

I wanted to add a bit of misting to the background, so I used the anchor from the Whatnots as a mask. I put the anchor face down so that I was misting the back of it, and then I was still able to use the anchor on another project – I used it on the card on this post. I used Heidi Swapp’s Gold Lame mist as it looks like shimmery sand, and then I handstitched around the anchor to define it. The photo frame on top of it is also from the Whatnots, it’s cool how it breaks the anchor up into shapes:

I also splattered some dots of Mr Huey Honor Society mist on the background to represent some water splashes!

I love the colours on this journaling card, and the sentiment on the title sticker is so cute!

The journaling reads: ‘Crawling at the beach means you get to investigate lots of interesting things, and this hole kept you amused for ages. You kept trying to reach the water at the bottom – almost falling in several times in the attempt!’

This ‘the adventure begins’  piece cut from the Color Me Happy 6×6 pad is placed to look a bit like a flag on a sandcastle or boat. And I left the top strip on the piece of paper coming out from the upper edge of the photo, because it had a hole in the middle, just like the picture!

Nothing but Stickers CKC Challenge

Hello! It’s time for the April challenge #2 at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog, and this time it’s ‘Nothin’ but Stickers’. Use only stickers as embellishments on a project!

I did struggle a bit with this one at first, but the more I played around with it the more I enjoyed myself…

Your Smile Makes My Heart Fly:

Your Smile by Jennifer Grace

Everything is from my April Counterfeit Kit and Add On. I used a lot of Echo Park Everyday Eclectic stickers, and the borders are from Crate Paper Storyteller.

I promise the puffy gold stars are also stickers (make unknown) so I didn’t cheat! The little black stars were punched from the American Crafts adhesive chalk labels, which was a fun way of making stickers in the shape I wanted!

Your Smile by Jennifer Grace

I decided on a long title to fill the page up with more stickers! I always have lots of alphas in my kits that I barely make a dent in, so it was good to get lots on one page:

Your Smile by Jennifer Grace

What do you think? Have you got a lot of stickers sitting around in your stash? You are allowed to pop them up with foam dots so your project isn’t all flat! What’s your oldest sticker in your stash? I have some silver Anita’s outline stickers still hanging around… maybe on the next project!

Don’t forget to check out the Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog to see what other sticker-filled projects the team have been making! x

A Bit Of Guest Blogging

Hello and good morning!

I’m just popping by with a quick post to let you know that I’m guest blogging at Julie Kirk’s Notes On Paper blog today. Julie’s running a fantastic series at the moment, called ‘Push-Up Bra Blogging’! What a great title, right?! It’s all about giving your blogging a ‘lift’.

Here’s what Julie says about the series:

‘Do you wish you had the time or inspiration to blog more often? Do you keep promising yourself you’ll blog more regularly? Do you wish you could blog as confidently as some of the bloggers you admire? This 6 week course [March/April 2013] is aimed at giving a pushed-up and padded boost to those of you who like the idea of blogging … but who, from time to time, feel a little, well … flat!’

The course has begun already, but you can read all about it and catch up with anything you’ve missed right HERE. It’s all free, though Julie is asking for donations to Save the Children via her sidebar button, if you enjoy the posts!

I’m guest blogging there today – you can read my post HERE! What do you think the topic of my guest post is? Need a little clue?

Yep, it’s all about my weekend blog events, and how much work they are to put together!

Don’t forget, the next one will be on the 10th – 12th May 2013, see you here then!

But for now head on over to Notes on Paper. Do you feel like your blogging needs a lift?

Have a great day! x
