Scrapbook Layouts

Welly Walk Layout

It’s drizzly here today, but it’s definitely a bit warmer too. It feels like fresh spring rain, instead of the cold wintry weather we’ve been having.

So it’s an appropriate day to show you this layout, which was featured in the PaperHaus Magazine Spring issue!

Welly Walk:

Welly Walk Layout by Jennifer Grace using Crate Paper Acorn Avenue

I used a ton of Crate Paper Acorn Avenue on this page, which I know is supposed to be an autumn collection, but I thought the greeny-blues and greys worked really well for spring too. And the photo could be from any season really, as me and my kids are happy to go on welly walks all year round!

The quote beneath the title (‘There’s no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes’ – Billy Connelly), is one my Dad taught me in my teens and I’ve tried to live by it. It doesn’t always work, but when my kids ask to go out and jump in the puddles, I remind myself of the quote, and more often than not we don our wellies and rain coats and go out for a splash!

To ink the edges of my layout I took the straw out of some Mister Huey Warm Calico mist, and rubbed it against the edge of the page, which made it look nice and grungy – we do normally come back covered in mud after all! I then used the same mist to splatter the background to echo puddle splashes. I added some Hero Arts Clear Gemstones and My Mind’s Eye Enamel Dots to add some shine to the background too.

I used an eclectic mix of embellishments, including a handmade hat pin (made by glueing beads onto wire), because my daughter always comes back from the walks with feathers, flowers, leaves and stones stuffed in her pockets. Plus I wanted a bit of sparkle to show how glamorous our wellies are!

My journaling is behind the photo, tucked into a glassline bag (which was originally some product packaging) to ‘protect it’ from the weather:

Do you go out for walks in the rain, or do drizzly days make you stay indoors? Would you be more likely to go for a welly walk if you had my polka-dot welly boots?! Love them!

Happy Spring! Don’t forget to check out the PaperHaus Magaizine Spring Issue if you haven’t already! x

  1. Oh my, I love this page so much!! All the little details and textures!! We loved rainy day walks and puddle splashing when H was younger but now she’s a bit older it doesn’t quite have the same excitement …. she’s curled up with a DVD right now in fact as it’s drizzy here today! xx
