Happy (Inter) National Scrapbook Day!

Happy National Scrapbook Day to all! Though it should be ‘International Scrapbook Day’ by now, right? Who do we talk to about changing that?!

There’s so much going on in the online scrapbooking realm this weekend! I am going to tell you about all the things I’ve heard about, but first I’m going to tell you about the ones that I’m already involved in!

First up – I am super excited to say that I’m guesting at Shimelle Laine’s Blog today! (If you’re new here, visiting me from Shimelle’s blog then ‘Hello!’ – Please check out my current giveaway with news of a blog event I’m holding next weekend!)

My challenge was to add some sparkle… not too difficult for me as I love a bit of bling! But it was still a challenge as I had to create and email the page quickly, and I also tried to use lots of different types of sparkle without overwhelming the page. Here’s a little sneak of the page, but you’ll have to pop over HERE to see the whole thing and to get tips on how I worked quickly:

Today Was Shiny by Jennifer Grace for Shimelle.com

My supplies were mainly from Crate Paper Maggie Holmes, DIY Shop, and The Pier, with some extras including Studio Calico and Freckled Fawn Wood Veneers, American Crafts Wow Glitters, Papermania Pink Shimmer Dome Stickers, and a Glitz Uncharted Waters Rhinestone.

While you’re there check out all the other challenges – Shimelle has examples from a lot of talented scrapbookers, and the challenges are open for a week! Go HERE!

I’ve also been getting all sketchy lately – not just following a sketch, but actually designing the sketches! Check me out! My sketch skills aren’t perfect yet but it’s been an okay start…

I created this sketch for an SJ Crafts NSD Sketch Challenge:

Sketch by Jennifer Grace For SJ Crafts NSD Challenge

I based it on my Disney Family layout on this post. As I’d already made that layout, I decided to use the sketch for a card, rotating it once to the right, and making the layers smaller, but you can see still the sketch there:

Supplies: Maggie Holmes and DIY Shop Collection Packs, Studio Calico Wood Veneer Cameras and Chevrons, My Mind’s Eye My Girl Enamel Dots, Hero Arts Clear Gemstones. It’s all layered up on a 6×6″ square kraft card blank, and the camera wood veneer is glittered with American Crafts Wow Glitter ‘Fountain’.

Make sure you go and check out the challenge HERE, if you enter you might win a £10 gift voucher to spend at SJ Crafts, and it’s open until the end of May. There’s plenty more inspiration from the rest of the Design Team on the sketch post to get you thinking, they did a fabulous job with my sketch! There’s going to be more NSD activities going on at the SJ Crafts blog and Facebook Page, so check those out and don’t miss out – I’ve heard whispers of a giveaway!

I also made a sketch for The Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog, who are doing a ton of NSD celebrations too! In fact they started yesterday, you can see the first post HERE which includes prize details!

This is the sketch I made for CKCB:

See how I made it a bit nautical to go with my May Counterfeit Kit? Of course you could swap the anchor out for a different embellie to match your supplies/theme!

Here’s the layout I made with my sketch:

Everything is from my May Counterfeit Kit, except I added some Hero Arts Clear Gemstones, and some white thread. I even got one of each of my handmade items on there!

Go check out the other inspiration on offer HERE!

So that’s all the projects I’ve been involved in for NSD so far, but there’s so many more I could join in with today! Here’s what I’ve heard about and may well be investigating…

  1. Love that layout – I’ll be off to Shimelle’s site as soon as I can to check it out in full. You have such talent! Your sketch is fab (the one with the anchor) and it jumped right out at me from the blog so I might give it a go too. Always lovely to drop by here and see what’s going on – and that’s a lot!

  2. Great sketches – I may be trying those. And breaking my pegs in half. IKWYM about them being too bulky; plus when they are split you get twice as many – double win!
Congrats on the Shimelle guest post – lovely LO.
