Making Progress with Digi & Hybrid

I dabbled a tiny bit in digi scrapping just over a year ago, and once or twice I’ve downloaded a printable to use on a project (when you print digi elements off to use on a paper project this is called ‘hybrid’ crafting – in case anyone didn’t know!) But I really want to start doing this more often!

I’d like to try and do project life digitally – seeing Abi’s digital project life pages tempts me even more! It’s the only way project life could work for me – I don’t print photos often enough to keep up with it in paper form, and I know it would make a huge paper album that would take up more life on my shelf – but a year of digi project life can be printed in a much more slimline photobook.

I haven’t managed to start digi project life yet, but in preparation for it I have started buying digital scrapbooking products and learning how to use them! Thanks to Angela at Toucan Scraps who shared on her Facebook status a digi scrapbooking collection that I just had to have, and then she told me about Serif Craft Artist that I could use it in!

The collection was ‘Dare to Believe in Something Bigger’ by Angie Young. How perfect is it for this weekend?

I’m sure it could be a lot better, but I was happy with it for a fast attempt!

Since then I’ve been playing more with the kit as hybrid elements. I will try using it digitally again, and give digi project life a try, but I’ve just bought Photoshop Elements so I want to learn how to use that first!

Here’s a couple of hybrid cards I’ve made in the meantime…

The first one I created as an A6 digi layout, then printed it out, stuck it on my card, and added some Stickles to the butterfly wings:

It doesn’t look flat does it? But it is! I added shadows to a couple of the elements to make them stand out more. Normally my cards cost a lot to post as they have so much dimension, I’m glad I’ve found a way to make flat cards that I like, to save me some postage sometimes!

The next one is more my usual style of card, I just printed off some elements to use like normal scrapbooking products. Here’s the sheet I printed off:

And this finished card (I left off a couple of the above elements that didn’t quite fit):

I inked the edges of most of the printed elements with a gold ink pad. I also added some Heidi Swapp Mint Color Shine mist droplets to the background, some Crystal Stickles on the flower centre, some American Crafts Aqua Glitter Tape along the bottom, and a scattering of sequins! I love this card too. I don’t mind paying postage to send something pretty like this to someone I love!

Be Inspired:

Do a bit of digi or hybrid crafting. If you google search for free digi kits or free printables there’s lots out there you can try!

Add some bigger paint or mist splats to a project (not just tiny droplets)

Find a quote or a picture to cut from a book or magazine and use it on a project like you would a printable element
