(This post is part of my Onwards and Upwards Blog Event)
I dabbled a tiny bit in digi scrapping just over a year ago, and once or twice I’ve downloaded a printable to use on a project (when you print digi elements off to use on a paper project this is called ‘hybrid’ crafting – in case anyone didn’t know!) But I really want to start doing this more often!
I’d like to try and do project life digitally – seeing Abi’s digital project life pages tempts me even more! It’s the only way project life could work for me – I don’t print photos often enough to keep up with it in paper form, and I know it would make a huge paper album that would take up more life on my shelf – but a year of digi project life can be printed in a much more slimline photobook.
I haven’t managed to start digi project life yet, but in preparation for it I have started buying digital scrapbooking products and learning how to use them! Thanks to Angela at Toucan Scraps who shared on her Facebook status a digi scrapbooking collection that I just had to have, and then she told me about Serif Craft Artist that I could use it in!
The collection was ‘Dare to Believe in Something Bigger’ by Angie Young. How perfect is it for this weekend?
I got to work straight away and made this quick page about me:
I’m sure it could be a lot better, but I was happy with it for a fast attempt!
Since then I’ve been playing more with the kit as hybrid elements. I will try using it digitally again, and give digi project life a try, but I’ve just bought Photoshop Elements so I want to learn how to use that first!
Here’s a couple of hybrid cards I’ve made in the meantime…
The first one I created as an A6 digi layout, then printed it out, stuck it on my card, and added some Stickles to the butterfly wings:
It doesn’t look flat does it? But it is! I added shadows to a couple of the elements to make them stand out more. Normally my cards cost a lot to post as they have so much dimension, I’m glad I’ve found a way to make flat cards that I like, to save me some postage sometimes!
The next one is more my usual style of card, I just printed off some elements to use like normal scrapbooking products. Here’s the sheet I printed off:
The items all cut out:
And this finished card (I left off a couple of the above elements that didn’t quite fit):
I inked the edges of most of the printed elements with a gold ink pad. I also added some Heidi Swapp Mint Color Shine mist droplets to the background, some Crystal Stickles on the flower centre, some American Crafts Aqua Glitter Tape along the bottom, and a scattering of sequins! I love this card too. I don’t mind paying postage to send something pretty like this to someone I love!
Be Inspired:
Do a bit of digi or hybrid crafting. If you google search for free digi kits or free printables there’s lots out there you can try!
Add some bigger paint or mist splats to a project (not just tiny droplets)
Find a quote or a picture to cut from a book or magazine and use it on a project like you would a printable element
What do you think? Have you ever tried digi or hybrid scrapping? Have I inspired you to try? You can bet I’ll be buying some items from the By Digital Paper Etsy Shop soon to try out too!
Remember that commenting on this post, and any other over this weekend, will count as an entry into the Grand Giveaway, but only if you’ve registered your interest in winning that prize right HERE!
See you again at 6pm! x
Good job on your digi layout – digi layouts scare me a bit but I do sometimes print out my journalling or titles!

I really like the idea of PL digitally. I had not heard of this until now. I love the way project life looks but have never been a fan of all the plastic pockets. Digitally makes sense to me and more fun. I also like the idea of it not taking up so much space on a shelf. Thanks for all your ideas and creativity and for the fabulous give-away.

I have tried a bit of hybrid scrapping in fact I did some last week as I loved the Studio Calico NSD freebie so I printed it out and used some of the elements on 2 LO’s. Not sure I will ever do a completely digi page tho hubby did buy me photoshop elements and it is still in the box!

I don’t believe it! You’ve actually tweaked my interest and I never thought I’d be into digi – but I’d love to have a go at Project Life and digi would give me a quick and easy way to put a toe in the water. Angie Young’s designs are just gorgeous and I’ve already had a peek at Abi’s blog and signed up for Daisy Trail so I can get the free Serif download. Thanks Jennifer for propelling me into the 21st century! 🙂

Great stuff! I’ve tried a bit of digital scrapping but didn’t much care for it. I don’t have a great printer and I already have SO much physical paper supplies that it’s just not a direction I really want to go in. I do occasionally use a digital stamp though- print it color it by hand, and incorporate it on a card.

I love what you have done here and I was exactly the same when I started going digi. It literally is experimentation and practice like anything! You look like a pro already though Jennifer!

I’m not much of a digi girl, but I like what you’ve created and I might like to dabble with printing and cutting some out like you did with your last project.

Well done on your first digi with that lovely kit – I’m afraid digi scrapping would allow even more prevarication and pontification from me … would that title be better in 60pt or 65pt … or 68pt? So I keep well away!

Seeing those cards of yours though..is something i would love to do!! Brilliant layout too and doing this in PL is very appealing!! x

I have never tried digi scrapping – I like working with real paper and stuff too much. But I do like to print things out and have started using digi stamps more for my cardmaking. Thanks for the inspiration – I have actually used a print out on a layout!!
