A Challenge – To Be As Free As A Bird!

(This post is part of my Onwards and Upwards Blog Event)

It’s time for the final challenge of the weekend. This time I want you to be as free as a bird!

Free As A Bird layout by Jennifer Grace

I made this layout super fast – it took about 40 minutes at most. You can tell it’s a quick one – there’s very few layers and no fancy interactive elements or machine stitching. But you can also tell I had fun making it!

Sometimes I spend too much time fussing over the little details, or trying to fit a lot of products or techniques onto one page. It takes some of the fun out of crafting. I want to progress by experimenting more – not worrying about how the end result will look – just sticking things down the first place you think they should go, stamping on a nearly completed layout, or using up some of my favourite Thickers, because why not? It’s all just stuff anyway, and there’s plenty more of it in my crafting stash!

You may have noticed there’s no prize photo on this challenge. That’s because this prize is special – it will be tailored to the winner. One person will receive:

A Counterfeit Kit by Jennifer Grace

The winner will be able to tell me what kinds of things they’d like in a kit – not specific products as I may not have them in my stash, but things like ‘chevrons/hot air balloons/the colour pink/nautical’ etc etc (those are just examples). Then I’ll root through my stash and send a kit of new and old items to the winner. I’ll even handmake a couple of embellishments to go with it – if the winner has any requests about this they can ask away too! I can try and re-create something you’d like to own but don’t have! I promise I will make it extra special and it will be a nice full kit!

Be Inspired:

Experiment on your next project by doing something you would normally steer clear of in case it ‘spoils’ everything

Stick an embellishment down straight away without worrying about it’s placement

Add a bird detail to a page or card

To enter this challenge: Make something to go with the theme ‘as free as a bird’. It might feature bird embellishments, be about ‘letting go’, or you might just have fun experimenting and letting loose on a layout!

Blog about it or upload it to an online gallery – a link back to here is appreciated if possible. Then come here and add your project to the Linky Tool below! You can enter this challenge as many times as you like, and you can combine it with other challenges (either mine or other online challenges). The project must be newly made (as long as it was made after 4pm Friday 10th May you can enter it).

The challenge will close next Sunday 19th May at 10.59pm BST (NOW SLIGHTLY EXTENDED TO 05.59am BST on Monday 20th May). It is open internationally.

Finally, don’t forget that commenting on this post, and any other over this weekend, will count as an entry into the Grand Giveaway, but only if you’ve registered your interest in winning that prize right HERE.

I’ll be back again about an hour! x

  8. I love everything about this page and challenge Jennifer, and what a great prize too!! Glad it is open until next Sunday because I may try and enter. I love that bird paper – just bought a pad that had sheets in it – it is the sort I stroke and keep for something special, but I am learning to use my stash more and more and not just hang onto it.
I had to do a scrapbook page recently in the blink of an eye – a long story – but I also learnt that it is good sometimes to be under pressure so you have to work outside the box and use different techniques to make it work.

  9. Great challenge! It’s funny- the two times I’ve found I’ve been most willing to play and experiment have been the two weeks I’ve been the “Growing in Unity Gal” over at Unity stamps. I think it’s probably because I’m making cards that have no solid purpose in mind. Usually I have to make a card for someone and it needs to go in the mail in the next few days. With the GIU cards, while I was essentially showing them off to a larger audience, there were no expectations or particular needs so I could play more. I made what I think are some of my best cards those two weeks. 🙂

  11. Love the idea of letting go while crafting and letting loose on the page to see if something will work out when trying something completely new. Love taking risks.
