Put A Bow On It (Part One) – Satin Glamour

Something about a shiny satin bow just shouts ‘Christmas!’, so it’s the perfect thing to add to festive projects. This post features a layout and a tag with glamorous bows. I’ve kept this post relatively shot as you might still be busy blog hopping around the globe!

Merry Un-Christmas:

We celebrate a Merry Un-Christmas with our friends Rosie and David every year, and this photo was taken when another close friend Ali joined in for the first time. We call it a ‘Merry Un-Christmas’ to be like the ‘Happy Un-Birthday’ tea party in Alice in Wonderland! It’s basically another Christmas celebration, with a roast dinner, present swapping, and games, but celebrated on a different day because we are usually with family on December 25th.

It was the perfect time to use a big bow. I make my bows following a method like THIS ONE, but I don’t usually pinch them in the middle – if it’s going on a papercraft project then leaving out the pinch makes it a little flatter for page protectors or for posting! Plus I usually cut a couple of tails and glue them on too.

With this bow I also glittered the centre using Mod Podge and American Crafts Gold Glitter (see a previous glittered bow tutorial here). It gives it a little extra pizazz:

I went to town with Elle’s Studio Noel items on this page, including the chalkboard background paper (called ‘Fa La La La La, La La La La’ – love that name!), and the red chevron ‘Candy Cane’ paper on top, which I stitched with gold thread. My machine kept break the thread so I ran the paper through the machine with no thread in it to make the holes in a straight line, then painstakingly hand stitched all the gold!

I really like this ‘Ho Ho Ho’ speech bubble from the Noel Bits & Pieces, it highlights how much fun we were having:

Aren’t we cute?! Ha ha!

Bows also look great on tags, especially if you make them big enough to hang over the edge – the over-the-top effect makes it seem extra luxurious!

Dec 25th Gift Tag:

I opted to keep this one clean and simple as I love the stark white contrasting with the jolly red glitter (American Crafts Pomegranate), and the rougher brown of the kraft tag. The baubles on the tree are made with Liquid Pearls in red and gold, and Crystal Stickles.
