(This post is part of my Frosty Festivities 2013 Blog Event)
Good morning and welcome to another day of winter and Christmas inspiration and fun!
We’re beginning the day with some more Christmas cards. These all use a vintage image as a focal point. I find cards a lot easier to make if I have a focal point – a large element that stand out. Sometimes I use the sentiment as the focal point, but with these I started with some super cute images of vintage children…
Dear Daughter Merry Christmas:
Merry Merry Christmas Son:
Both the above cards use a die-cut image from Pretty Little Studio (from the Little Girl Christmas set and the Little Boy Christmas set). I paired them up with papers and embellies from last year’s collections – because I figure if they are vintage-style then I don’t need to use the latest products! I also added my usual sparkly gems, and some shimmery misted ribbon or glitter tape.
Holiday Wishes:
This is an image from a newly discovered Etsy shop – Peggy Loves Vintage. I printed the girl image onto linen paper, which looks good in real life but it looks a little grainy in the photo – sorry! I used a bright red doily here, because the doily makes me think of vintage, but the bold red colour makes it feel trendy! Do you like the gems around the girl’s hat too?!
I used red and green as the dominant colours on all these cards, purely because it’s a good traditional Christmas colour scheme, and having those colours in mind helped me choose papers and embellishments faster!
Be Inspired:
Use something with a vintage style
Choose a red and green colour scheme
Put a frame around a die-cut image

I don’t often use vintage as never quite sure what to do with it but bought some ‘male’ vintage images from the NEC yesterday to use on cards for boys so thanks for the inspiration… hopefully I will get crafting some cards soon!

I’m the same way abt needing a focal point. If I have just a collection of odds and ends, I don’t know how.to compose them. Love your vintage looking cards!
