Christmas Cards – On The Mantlepiece

(This post is part of my Frosty Festivities 2013 Blog Event)

Here’s another set of three Christmas cards. This time I created a ‘mantelpiece’ or ‘shelf’ on each card for the sentiment and embellishments to sit on…

Christmas Cards with Mantelpieces:

I started with a 6×6″ card blank, covered the top and the bottom of the card with two different colours of patterned paper (making sure the one at the top was less busy) and then made my wooden mantelpiece. I used a Glitz Designs Woodgrain Roller Doodle with brown ink on dark kraft card to make the wood, but you could use woodgrain paper or just brown card. My mantelpieces are approx 1¼” deep, and I adhered them with foam tape – making sure it ran down the middle of the shelf so that I could tuck things in at the top and bottom.

Then I tucked some gold glitter ribbon at the top of each mantelpiece, put a little tree and a present on each one too, and added a sentiment and some gems. I also tucked some white ribbon at the bottom of each mantelpiece:

I think these cards look cool and cosy, what do you think?

Be Inspired:

Use a mantelpiece or shelf across your next project

Tuck things under an embellishment that’s been added with foam tape or dots

Use sticker sentiments to finish off a card

Back again soon, Jennifer x
