(This post is part of my Refresh Your Craft & Soul Blog Event – see the beginning HERE!)
It’s time for the next challenge {NOW CLOSED} – this one is to use a resist technique of some kind on your next project!
The winner of this challenge will receive this prize:
An Amy Tangerine Day Book and a roll of washi tape!
A resist technique means using one medium as a base layer which will resist the layer on top, eg. wax crayon, glue, or clear embossing powders are some mediums you can use as the base layer before adding ink, mist, paint, etc!
My favourite is to use clear embossing ink and powder with my stamps to make a resist background. I did this for my word of the year page CLEANSE. But here’s another page for inspiration too:
I made the background by stamping lots of different shapes onto a sheet of Heidi Swapp Dreamy paper with clear ink. I tipped clear embossing powder onto each shape after stamping it, but I didn’t bother to heat emboss it until they were all done:
After heat embossing you can barely see them:
Until you swipe some paint on top – I used my watercolour paints again:
I also used a Pink Paislee resist butterfly:
Swiping it with some watered-down orange acrylic paint:
I love how it creates subtle but pretty patterns:
I used a blue pen to write my journaling to stick with the refreshing theme, it’s a lot lighter than my usual black pen:
Did you spot the free printables on here too?
Be Inspired:
Use a resist technique on your next project
Use a journal card or other paper phrase as your title
Swap a tool (eg a pen or glue) which you always use, and try a different one
If you need more resist inspiration check out Annie’s blog hop post, as she used glue-resist on some pocket scrapping cards!

Resist techniques are often surprising and the results can be quite unexpectedly beautiful, as your embossing powder shows. I will be trying some today and, if successful, will post the results.

Pretty page – did the heating in one go help with more than time? I’d be concerned about knocking the powder back off!
