GUEST POST – Riikka Kovasin with Snowy Mixed Media Trees

Here’s another brilliant guest post to give you even more inspiration! This time we have the wonderful Riikka from Paperiliitin. I have long admired Riikka’s mixed-media style, she makes creating beautiful layered projects look so achievable. I always want to get out some gel medium and paint after visiting her blog or watching her YouTube videos! Unfortunately the Happy Scatter items I sent seem to have got lost in the post, but Riikka didn’t let that phase her. She has created another masterpiece today, and she even made a video for you to see how it’s done…

Hello there and welcome to my Frosty Festivities guest post! I’m so honored to be involved in this event! Thank you Jennifer for asking me to participate!

I wanted to do something a bit different so I chose to go mixed media and 3 D. I mostly do scrapbooking layouts but recently the mixed media pieces have become more and more prominent in my crafting. But don’t get me wrong, I always enjoy making a page, too!

Here’s my snowy mixed-media trees:

Using various different mediums and styrofoam cones I created two trees. You can use the same techniques and ideas to make a snowy canvas, too. And the best part in these is that you can use any object as long it has a lovely shape! These trees hold broken jewellery, bottle caps, found objects and sewing supplies to name a few.

While writing this the snow still hasn’t reached Helsinki, where I live, but I hope that the scenery will soon be as white as these trees! I always love how white snow turns everything so soft and luminous. It makes a huge difference here in the gloomy north where dusk arrives at the afternoon.
