Christmas Tree Paperclip Earrings

To kick off today’s projects I’ve got an easy gift you can make…

These earrings were inspired by some paperclip earrings by Evie S, which you can see RIGHT HERE. I’ve just jazzed them up by putting some beads and gems on to turn them into Christmas trees!

Here’s how to put them together…

Step 1: Unfold two paperclips by turning out the corners, like this:

Step 2: Add a drop of hot glue or epoxy glue on the join:

Step 3: Tie on some green embroidery thread (the rest of the step-by-step photos just show one earring, but you need to do 2 okay?!):

Step 4: Hold the short end of the string against the paperclip, and start wrapping the long end of string around and around, hiding the short end of the string as you go:

Step 5: Keep going until the metal of the paperclip is all covered:

Step 6: Tie on another piece of string:

Step 7: And start wrapping it around the paperclip to cover the middle too. If you want it to go right to the bottom of the triangle you’ll need to use some glue on the two bottom corners. Also, if you run out of thread at any point, just tie on some more with a reef knot and keep going:

Step 8: Keep going until you’re happy with how it looks, I went round quite a few times so it looks quite padded. Tie a knot where you finish wrapping, then thread the loose end of string through a darning needle:

And push the needle through the earring, cutting the thread off at the top once you’ve brought it through, so the loose end is hidden inside the earring:

Step 9: Add some clear-drying glue (I used glossy accents) at the top and bottom of the earring, so the threads wont slip off the triangle:

Step 10: Dot some more clear-drying glue all over the tree:

Step 11: Add some beads and gems to the glue dots. When the glue is dry add some earring hooks to the top of the trees:

Wear them to Christmas parties or give them as a gift to make someone’s day!

I was having so much fun wrapping string that I decided to make a wool wrapped pendant too. I used the plain circle wreath from the Wreaths and Baubles Wood Veneers Set, and wrapped white wool round it, finishing off with Tiny Stars wood veneers and silver star sequins:

This will work well for New Years eve parties too!
