White Winter Scene Box Frame

I pinned a Magical Christmas Scene at The Salt Tree blog a while ago, and have been dying to try and make something similar. Since I had lots of fun putting together by Weird and Wonderful Box Frame a couple of months ago, I decided to fill a frame with a snowy scene:

It makes me wish for a white Christmas! Here’s how I put it together…

I started with a ‘Ribba’ frame from Ikea:

There was one item I knew I definitely wanted to use, a reindeer ornament I picked up at poundland. But the antlers stuck out so much that it didn’t really fit into the frame:

So I snapped the antlers off:

And then used a hot glue gun to re-attach them:

Now it was much flatter and would fit in the frame!

I gathered up an assortment of other items I might want to use:

And sprayed them with white spray paint. Make sure you do this in a well ventilated area:

I gave them 3 light coats with the spray paint until I was happy with the coverage:

Next I pulled the glass out of the frame and stuck a piece of patterned paper to the glass using double-sided tape. Then I used a background stamp (Paper Smooches) to add some hexagons to the paper:

I used some embossing paste through the Stars Of Wonder stencil on the top right of the paper, and sprinkled some fine silver glitter on top:

I left it to dry for about 20 minutes before peeling off the stencil (the paste was still wet but you shouldn’t leave paste on the stencil too long), and then left it to dry for a few hours. Then I was able to put the glass & paper back into the frame:

I then checked which items I wanted to use and how I would arrange them:

I added silver trim to a couple of things. As the little boy had his hand up I thought he might as well be taking his giant reindeer for a walk, so I gave him a lead, and I put string around the dice to look like presents. The strings were all secured with hot glue at the back of the objects:

I used hot glue to adhere the items to the base of the frame:

And then to cover up the unsightly hot glue lumps, I liberally brushed on some embossing paste, sprinkled again with silver glitter:

With a few white buttons added to the background, my frame was finished!
