Here’s the first layout I’ve made in 2016! I needed a bit of inspiration to get be back to scrapping, so I turned to the Jot Magazine January 2016 Mood Board. The colours were beautiful and I managed to pull lots of bits and pieces from my stash that would suit it!
Here’s the layout I ended up with – Life Is Good, Smile:
This is another one for My 30th Birthday party album, the photo is from the morning of the party when we were all waking up from a night of camping, and trying to ignore the drizzly weather!
Here’s the mood board from Jot:
To start with I planned out that my background paper would be the piece with doilies on, I chose some 6×6 papers and scraps to layer with, and I knew I wanted to use some burlap paper on here as there were the little burlap bags on the moodboard:
I thought about making the burlap into a little bag or pocket for journaling, but it was really thick and I couldn’t work out how to do it and make it look nice. Then I remembered that I had one Crate Paper wooden embroidery hoop shape left, so I decided to use the burlap inside the ‘frame’. I drew around the outside edge of the hoop on the back of the burlap paper:
I cut the circle out just inside the drawn line, then drew on a heart shape, before back-stitching along it with cream twine and a darning needle:
Then I just added glue around the back of the wood veneer hoop and pressed it onto the burlap circle to join them together:
Initially I stuck to the more muted tones of the colour scheme when choosing embellishments for the rest of the layout:
But I decided it needed something to make it ‘pop’ especially as my coat in the photo is quite a bright blue. So I added some brighter blue items around the edges too:
Then I just had to finish off with my journaling and some enamel dots and gems!
My journaling reads:
We may have woken up to a drizzly grey day for our party, but that wouldn’t stop us from smiling!
I especially like this ‘happy camper’ sticker which I found as it’s so perfect for the page:
Do you think I did the mood board justice? I could probably have done with a bit more newsprint or florals, but I didn’t have any newsprint in my stash and I figured the doilies were okay instead of florals!
The mood board challenge is open for another week-or-so if you want to enter!
I hope you are having a great weekend,
Jennifer x

Spectacular embellishments, and I love how they enhance and not overwhelm your photo.
