Guest Post – McCall Clifford with a Happy Scatter Home Decor Piece!

Today it’s time for the next Guest Designer to share a project using items from my Happy Scatter Etsy Shop!

I’m going to let the fabulous McCall Clifford talk you through the project…

Happy Scatter!

I can’t think of a better name to describe this fun project full of lots of cute products!

Guest Post - McCall Clifford with a Happy Scatter Home Decor Piece!

I received my package of goodies and was so impressed how cute all the packaging is and the unique variety of product.

Since I’m not much of a scrap-booker myself I thought it’d be a great idea to create a fun bright statement piece to hang.

I painted an 8×8 piece of wood black, a wood veneer sun yellow, and pink wood flowers a vibrant pink.

I screwed in an eyelet for hanging on the center top.

Spring Themed Card for the Mixed Media Card Challenge

Today I’m sharing a card that I’m entering into the Mixed Media Card Challenge #9 (closes 25th March). Their theme is ‘Spring’ with the optional extra element ‘Bird’. Here’s my card:

I was especially drawn to the rainbow in the challenge graphic:

Mixed Media Card Challenge #9 'Spring' March 2015

Which seemed like a perfect excuse to use the new Happy Scatter ‘See A Rainbow’ stencil. First I sprayed the back of the stencil with some Spray-Mount repositionable adhesive, and placed it onto my card (the front of the card measures approx 15 x 10.5cm), using some washi tape to cover any areas where I didn’t want the ink to accidentally go through:

Then I used pigment inks (Avery Elle Aquamarine and Lemon Grass, and American Crafts Mustard and Grapefruit) with a Tim Holtz Ink Blending Tool (and separate foam pads for each colour), to daub some colour through the rainbow. I started with blue at the bottom, then used green, yellow, and finally pink at the top:

I lifted the stencil off to reveal the rainbow, folded the card, and dripped some Heidi Swapp Seafoam Mist droplets over the rainbow:

While I waited for some mist to dry I glittered up a sun and a flower wood veneer (from the Fresh New World set). First I coated them with a thick layer of Mod-Podge:

I threw on lots of American Crafts ‘Wow’ Lemon Glitter:

And I left it to dry for a couple of hours (it takes a while because of the thickness of the Mod-Podge). Once it was dry I shook off the excess glitter:

Then I finished the card off with a stamped greeting (from Avery Elle ‘Cake & Candles’), a cloud and a flower from the Spring Paper Pieces set, some glitter ribbon, enamel dots, a rhinestone star, and a fabric brad with a bird on:

It’s a colourful and cheerful way to send a greeting in spring!

Have you ever entered the Mixed Media Card Challenge? Why not give it a try – you don’t have to use tons of arty supplies as embellishments and textures count too. See their list of ideas for mixed-media things to include HERE.

I hope you see a real life rainbow today,

There’s also a new wood veneer set, called ‘Fresh New World’:

The diamond shape can be turned into a kite by tying some ribbon or twine through the hole at the bottom!

Finally there’s a ‘Picket Fence’ Spring Paper Pieces Set. This is a selection pack of the kinds of paper embellishments I offer, as it includes three 3×4″ die-cut cards, two journaling cards, and ten pieces of ephemera:

Guest Post – Terhi Koskinen with a Happy Scatter layout & Process Video

As I promised when I revealed the Guest Designers on Tuesday, I’m back today with the first Guest Designer’s project with items from my Happy Scatter Etsy Shop. Read on to see what she created and to see a process video!

Here’s the fabulous ‘Love This’ scrapbook layout by Terhi Koskinen:

GUEST POST - Terhi Koskinen with a 'Love This' Happy Scatter layout

Here’s what Terhi wanted to say about her page:

I decided to focus on the ‘Going In Circles’ stencil, but once I got my inspiration going I noticed I used all the things I got in my Guest Designer goody pack. The ‘Scattered Triangles‘ stencil is so very versatile, I’m sure it will be the one I’m using over and over again in the future. The same goes for the wood shapes and especially for the cork stickers, those are so thin and nice way to add interest to a scrapbook page!
.
I’m so glad I got a chance to guest here, the Happy Scatter products made me so Happy! Thank you Jennifer!
 .
The lovely Terhi also filmed a process video to show you how she put the page together, I especially loved watching how she used the stencils. You can watch below or see it on YouTube HERE.
 .

Ooh she makes me want to pull out my stencils and messy media and get playing! Here’s some close ups of her page. I like how she cut one of the Everyday Printed Cork Stickers in half to tuck them into her layers, and the stars from the Simply Life Wood Veneers set look gorgeous coloured with turquoise mist:

The cork sticker below is also from the same set, but Terhi altered it by drawing a border and adding a ‘best ever’ circle, to cover up the ‘365’ number printed on the star – showing how you can make them work for you on your project:

Loose threads, pretty paper layers, and flecks of mist all compliment the stenciling:

What do you think? Does Terhi’s page make you want to pull out your arty supplies?!

Here’s a reminder of where to find all Terhi’s other fantastic projects…

Melissa Vining

Happy Scatter Guest Designer Melissa Vining

Hello,  I’m Melissa and I’m from Queenstown, New Zealand (home of Bungy Jumping).

I’m married with 3 children (aged 8, 5 and nearly 1), and currently I’m a stay at home mum who works part time from home. I’ve been scrapbooking for about 6 years now, and started when my first child was 18 months old as I wanted to make a baby album for him. In 2012 I discovered the online world of scrapbooking and have never looked back. I’m predominantly a traditional scrapbooker, and I try to be creative everyday, even if it’s just 10 minutes. My favourite product is definitely the patterned paper, closely followed by ephemera and journalling cards! My style is clean and fresh with extra details, and I love to try new trends. I currently design for Lets Get Sketchy challenge blog, and Artfull Crafts, a New Zealand scrapbooking store. I’m so excited to be working with the Happy Scatter products. They are original and fun, and really suit my style. You can find me on My Blog, on My YouTube Channel, or Instagram.

What an amazing bunch of creative minds eh? I can’t wait to see all of their projects. I was so lucky with my choice of applicants, they were all amazing, so thank you to everyone who applied, you made my choice very difficult!

You won’t have to wait long to see one of these crafters in action – Terhi will be back on Thursday this week (the 26th of February) to share her creation with you all. Don’t forget to check back then!

In the meantime you can always stop by the Happy Scatter Etsy Shop or Facebook Page to see what’s going on!

Bye for now,

These stickers are all hand cut or punched with a craft punch. The images are printed onto paper then I heat-transfer them individually to each sticker. It takes ages but I think it’s worth it, what do you think?

All the new items this month were designed for ordinary-life layouts and occasions – they can fit all kinds of themes and uses!

Thanks for checking them out. I’ll be back sometime next week to show you a project I made with these, and to let you know who the Guest Designers are going to be! And don’t forget to ‘like’ the Happy Scatter Facebook Page if you want to keep up with sneak peeks and news!

A Card For My Valentine (using Happy Scatter items)

Sorry I’ve been absent this week. I could blame it on many things but the main reason is our current addiction to The Vampire Diaries which we have been watching on Netflix (UK)! I love Netflix but the problem with having entire seasons of shows at your fingertips is that the temptation to watch ‘just one more episode’ it too great. I think we’ve watched 10 episodes so far this week. Oops.

I managed to pull myself away briefly to make a Valentine’s card for my husband Alex, using mainly items from the Happy Scatter January Release (don’t forget about the Guest Designer Call on that post, which closes on Sunday)! Here’s the finished card:

A Valentines Card using Happy Scatter Items

Using a stencil and some other bits and pieces! Here’s how I put it together…

I pulled out some items I thought I might use – mostly Happy Scatter items but also some Simple Stories enamel dots and an A6 blue card blank:

A Valentines Card using Happy Scatter Items

I tried out a few backgrounds, including this one with the large ‘date’ journal card, and the foiled word ‘golden’:

A Valentines Card using Happy Scatter Items

I also tried this one, with the ‘we are good together’ tag and the ‘xoxo’ journaling card:

A Valentines Card using Happy Scatter Items

Before settling on the ‘I want to be with you all the time’ journaling card (from the ‘We Are Golden’ Journaling Cards pack), and the mint foiled arrow (from the ‘Hugs’ Ephemera):

A Valentines Card using Happy Scatter Items

I used some repositionable adhesive spray (I use Scotch-Weld Spray Mount) to spray the back of the Geometric Hearts Stencil, and once it was tacky I pressed it onto the A6 card blank, checking the journaling card would overlap it slightly:

Then I used a sponge dauber to apply white acrylic paint through the bold heart shape:

A Valentines Card using Happy Scatter Items

Once the white paint was dry I placed the tyre-track type heart over the top (again using spray adhesive to make sure it stayed in place):

A Valentines Card using Happy Scatter Items

And I used some matt artist gel mixed with grey paint to spread through the pattern:

Once dry it looks very cool with the depth and texture:

I layered on the few bits that I’d already chosen to use:

Then added some extra bits, like my hubby’s name, some of my Wood Veneer Shapes, and some white thread… I twirled some into a loop:

A Valentines Card using Happy Scatter Items

And held it on the card by sticking the ‘love’ ephemera circle on top (using 3D foam dots):

I finished it off with a bit of glitter tape and some enamel dots and gems:

I hope he likes it!

Do you make any Valentine’s cards? If yes do you turn to love-themed supplies or just use general stash?

I hope you all have a great weekend!
