Mmm… Pear and Banana Milkshake

(This post is part of my Refresh Your Craft & Soul Blog Event – see the beginning HERE!)

Yesterday I talked about how I’ve been trying to drink more water, including my Flavoured Water. I admit I haven’t been great at it so far this year, but I’m going to keep trying! What I do find a lot easier is drinking milkshakes and smoothies! They have a few more calories than water, but at least they are a lot better for me than diet coke!

This one is one of my favourite discoveries…

Pear and Banana Milkshake:

You will need (this makes approx two drinks):

4 kids fun size pears or two normal size pears (should be soft to blend easily)

1 banana

300ml milk

2 tbs of honey (adjust to how sweet your tooth is!)

Peel and chop the pears and banana, put all the ingredients in a blender, and whizz!

It’s so easy to make. We’re going to be drinking lots of these. They certainly were a hit with this little miss:

Mint Chocolate Sugar Scrub

(This post is part of my Refresh Your Craft & Soul Blog Event – see the beginning HERE!)

My hands are often sore and dry, so to go along with my cleansing & refreshing theme I should have some kind of body scrub. I was amazed at how easy it was to make with ingredients I already had at home!

Mint Chocolate Sugar Scrub:

The sugar in this scrub exfoliates your skin, and the oil helps to make it soft. The mint chocolate is just so they smell nice!

I was inspired by THIS RECIPE at The Idea Room blog, but I adapted it for UK measurements, and to add some peppermint essence – I chose this combination because mint-choc-chip is my favourite ice cream flavour so the smell makes me think of summer!

Here are the ingredients:

Mint Chocolate Sugar Scrub

You will need:

100ml oil – I used Extra-Virgin Olive Oil because it’s what I had but you can use coconut oil, almond oil, etc

100g Dark Brown Soft Unrefined Cane Sugar

100g Golden Caster Sugar

1tsp Cocoa Powder

1tsp Finely Grated Dark Chocolate

Half a tsp Peppermint Extract

Plus a jar with a lid to keep it in!

Step 1: Mix Together the dry ingredients:

Step 2: Add the wet ingredients and mix them in:

Step 3: Transfer it to a jar and decorate the jar if you wish (I cut a circle for the top and made a label using my Cricut Explore):

That’s it! It should last a few months, if you don’t use it up sooner! To use it just scoop a small amount onto wet hands (or body!) rub it in, and then rinse very lightly – don’t rinse too much or you’ll wash the oil off too and won’t benefit so much.

P.S. Everything in this is edible – I totally licked the spoon I’d been mixing with!

This feels lovely on my hands, I’m totally going to make more once this runs out – I might try this Coconut Lime Sugar Scrub at The Idea Room next, if I can get hold of some lime oil! Check out all the recipes – there’s lots of different ones!

Flavoured Water To Cleanse The Palette

(This post is part of my Refresh Your Craft & Soul Blog Event – see the beginning HERE!)

Good morning!

We’re starting the day off with a quick refreshing drink!

Flavoured Water To Cleanse The Palette:

My word for the year is ‘cleanse’, and when I made a layout about it in January (see HERE), one of the things I wanted to focus on was drinking more water. I drink too much diet coke and orange squash which are full of artificial sweeteners, and I want to try and decrease that!

So I started to look for ideas to make water more interesting. I found THIS RECIPE at ‘A Pretty Life’ which looked easy enough for me to handle! I changed it up to use what I had to hand though…

I used 1 orange, 8 medium strawberries, and two pineapple slices from a tin.

First I half-filled my jug with ice cubes (star and x shaped ones!):

Then I added enough water to just about cover the ice, and put the the chopped up strawberries, orange, and pineapple in on top, and mixed it about a bit with a chopstick:

I also added a teeny bit of pineapple juice because it was right there in front of me, but only a little as I didn’t want the water to go too cloudy.

I left it for about 20 minutes to mull, then poured it into a glass, using a spoon to make sure I got a couple of fruity bits:

At this point the water didn’t taste that different, just a bit tangy, the fruit was nice though. I left it for a couple of hours after that and then had another glass, which was lovely! I need to start doing this every morning when I wake up… and trying different flavours!

Are you good at drinking water to stay refreshed?

Be Inspired:

Go make some flavoured water or a healthy smoothie

Are you feeling bright and energised this morning? There’s lots and lots more to come today!

Frosty Festivities Christmas & Winter

Jacket Potato Surprise

(This post is part of my Frosty Festivities Blog Event)

This recipe is not fancy or complicated, it’s just good family fare. We love it in the winter to fill us all up!

Jacket Potato Surprise:
For two people you will need:
  • Three Big Jacket Potatoes
  • Butter
  • 4 slices of Bacon
  • Half a tin of Baked Beans
  • 70g of tinned Sweetcorn
  • Approx 50g Cheddar Cheese
To Cook:
  1. Put potatoes in oven at 200 degrees C. Give them an hour and a quarter at least to cook—the skins must be crispy.
  2. When there’s 15 mins left until they’re ready, fry the bacon until crispy, then chop into small bits.
  3. When the potatoes are done, cut them in half and scoop out the insides into the bowl (don’t damage the  skins).
  4. Mix the potato in a bowl with the baked beans, bacon (keep a few bits), a knob of butter, the sweetcorn and grated cheese. Put this mixture back into skins.
  5. Grate a little more cheese on top then put back into the oven or under a low grill for ten minutes.
  6. Then serve with the few bits of bacon on top, maybe with a side salad if you’re feeling virtuous!
Note: The ingredients can be altered – try onion, tomatoes, peas, or tuna!

Be Inspired:
  • Write out, or blog about your favourite winter meal
  • Cook something easy and filling for your next meal, so you’ve got more time for crafting
  • Choose a photo and upload it to PicMonkey to edit and put text on top (or use your usual photo editing software)

Now I’ve made you hungry, I’m off to have my dinner! I’ll return shortly!
