Summery Colour Combinations and Rainy Layouts!

Hello all,

Today I’m here to tell you about a couple of posts over at the SJ Crafts Blog!

First up, it’s time for the June Challenge, and this time it’s a Colour Palette:

June Challenge Colour Challenge at SJ Crafts

The colours you must use are:
Hot Pink * Tangerine * Cream * Gold *
The “Cream” can be a neutral of your choice!! So you could use Beige, Grey, White etc.

Ooh, it’s so summery it makes me want to go lay on a baking hot beach somewhere!

I used the colours to make a birthday card…

Here Comes The Sun:

Here Comes The Sun card by Jennifer Grace

I’m trying to encourage the weather to warm up a bit! I used the Amy Tangerine’s Plus One 6×6 Pad and a Die-Cut Tag (stitched with gold embroidery thread), plus some Pink Paislee Hello Sunshine Ephemera, some Studio Calico Essentials Gold Stars, and some sequins.

Make sure you check out the other DT members projects, and enter the challenge to try and win a prize, right HERE!

I also had a couple of layouts go live on the SJ Crafts blog today, and these are all about using raindrops on your pages… the post is called Rain Rain, Stay and Play! Now, this doesn’t mean I want it to keep raining for real, as you can see from my card I really want some sunshine right now. But I’m quite happy for raindrop themed products to stick around for a while, as they are so fun to scatter around, and you don’t just have to use them on rainy pages…

Our Rainbow:

Though of course you can use it for rainy pages if you want to…

Puddles Without Wellies:

I used the Pink Paislee Hello Sunshine collection in abundance on these pages, including lots of the Ephemera Pack, which I’m totally in love with, as it has so many pretty bits and pieces! The Puffy Stickers are super cute too!

You can see lots more photos of these layouts at the SJ Crafts blog right HERE, with more information about how I put them together too!

Thank you for reading my weather-filled post! Is it sunny or rainy where you are? Do you prefer products with sunshine or raindrops?

Have a great day!

P.S. Don’t forget my free Refresh Your Craft & Soul event is fast approaching!

Disclosure: I am on the SJ Crafts Design Team, so I was sent the Hello Sunshine Products to use for the two layouts in this post, and I receive a discount off other items purchased in the store.

SJ Crafts May Challenge – Bingo!

Hello everyone, it’s time for the May SJ Crafts Challenge!

Just in time for the weekend and (Inter)National Scrapbooking Day (Saturday May 3rd). Are you going to be getting your craft on? If so you can join in this challenge and be in with the chance to win a prize – you have until the 31st of May to enter!

This time it’s bingo:

SJ Crafts May Challenge

Select 3 boxes from the grid in a line (horizontal/vertical/diagonal) and include the items or technique in those 3 boxes on your project!

I chose the diagonal line from top left down to bottom right: I used Mist, a Metal Embellishment, and a Knot…

Stay Little Trouble Maker Boy:

Stay Little by Jennifer Grace

This page is all about my son’s obsession with keys, and how he really wanted to unlock my sister’s car and drive it!

I splattered Heidi Swapp’s Navy Color Shine Mist on the background, which is a sheet of  Crate Paper Boys Rule ‘Zap’ Paper, with some ‘arrows’ cut from the ‘Top Score’ Paper stuck on top. I also doodled around the page border to create some fake stitching / road tracks!

My main metal embellishment is an old key, which also has a knot of baker’s twine tied on it, though there’s a knot in some string under the title too:

Stay Little by Jennifer Grace

The title uses bits from the Boys Rule Ephemera Pack, there are also some Boys Rule Wood Embellishments around the page too.

I added a couple more metal embellishments – two metal rimmed brads:

With a scattering of Studio Calico Essentials Cork Stars and Gold Enamel Dots spread around for good measure.

Are you going to take on the challenge? It was a fun way to include something on my page that I wouldn’t usually reach for – I liked rummaging through my stash for some metal, and wondering what I could tie knots in!

Don’t forget to check out the Challenge Post at SJ Crafts to see what the rest of the team chose, and how their projects turned out.

Have a great weekend,

SJ Crafts April Challenge – A Mood Board For Ideas!

Hello everyone! I don’t know what season you are experiencing wherever you are in the world, but here spring is in full swing, with flowers blooming and warmer days making me look forward to the summer!

So this Mood Board I created for the SJ Crafts April Challenge feels especially inspiring to me, though I’m sure you can get ideas from it not matter what weather you’re having…

April Challenge Mood Board:

SJ Crafts April Challenge Mood Board

You can take ideas from this however you choose, for example:

Use the colours – Yellow, Green, Peach, White, Cork/Kraft
Use the quote ‘Look How They Grow’
Make a page about flowers or plants
Use some of the elements, eg. feathers and stars on your page
Use the composition somehow (eg. two lines along the base of your project)
Or anything else you get from the mood board!
For my sample layout I mainly chose to use the colours of lime green and yellow, with some cork elements (including some American Crafts DIY Shop Cork Alphas and Arrows), but I swapped out the peach for a bolder orange because I wanted to use some Amy Tangerine Plus One items!
Treasure Hunt:

Treasure Hunt layout by Jennifer Grace

I love this combination of colours, it makes me feel happy and lively just to look at them!

The background paper with the circles on is actually from Crate Paper’s Boys Rule collection, it’s called ‘Race Track’ – I bought two sheets of this paper because I loved the front and back! I sprinkled some drops of gold mist on this side to break up the circles a bit.

The page is about a ‘treasure hunt’ walk my daughter and I went for last year – she designed the map and said we had to look for jewels!  The journaling reads:

‘I took you for an adventure one hot day, we left little brother with Rosie so we could explore properly. You drew a map for us and said we were looking for jewels and a castle.

We hid from pretend dragons, collected jewels that were really pebbles, and the bridge by the quay was a castle. The alcoves were the king and queen’s thrones! I {heart} adventures with you!’

I also took inspration from the mood board by sticking a couple of elements (cut from the Plus One 6×6 Pad) down with washi tape, and by using star embellishments, particularly some gold and woodgrain stars from the Studio Calico Essentials range:

Treasure Hunt layout by Jennifer Grace

I added a couple of feathers like those on the mood board, though I coloured a white feather with Heidi Swapp’s Coral Color Shine Spritz first, then stitched them onto the layout:

Finally some Plus One Puffy Stickers and Accent Stickers, plus some Studio Calico Woodgrain and Gold Enamel Dots, are sprinkled around the page for my usual touch of scattering!

What do you think about the way I used the mood board? What inspiration can you take from it? Check out the Challenge Post at SJ Crafts to see what ideas the other Design Team members found on the mood board and the samples they made! Plus you can enter your own project to have a chance to win a small spring prize!

Have a great day!

SJ Crafts March Challenge – Photo Inspiration

Hello hello. How is everyone?

Today I’m sharing the March Inspiration Challenge at SJ Crafts which has just gone live!

This month you can use this photo collage for inspiration in any way you choose:

SJ Crafts March Challenge

Here’s the layout I made as a sample…

@ The Cold Shore:

@ The Cold Shore by Jennifer Grace

I was inspired to seek out a photo from a cold day at the beach, and this was the coldest I have ever been at the shore!

My journaling is actually written on a bit of packaging, which is partly hidden – here’s the whole thing:

@ The Cold Shore by Jennifer Grace

If you can’t make it out, the journaling says:

‘You asked to go to the beach one day, but instead we promised to go on another. Even though it turned out to be cold we went then. We didn’t want to break our promise. And it didn’t look too bad when we left Wareham. However when we got to Studland beach the dark grey clouds were rolling in and the wind was blowing hard – whipping the beach flags. It was absolutely freezing! We played there for about half an hour, while our noses started running and a certain Mr got wet and had to be wrapped in a towel on the way home. I think we must have been mad, but at least we didn’t break our promise!’

I was also inspired to use muted colours – with darker colours at the bottom of the page going to lighter ‘sky’ at the top. The ‘b’ side of this piece of paper from Crate Paper’s The Pier collection was perfect for the subdued but atmospheric feel of the photo:

@ The Cold Shore by Jennifer Grace

A few of my other supplies were some The Pier stickers, some Prima canvas alphas, Jenni Bowlin’s Tiny Trims rub-ons, and some Simple Stories Daily Grind chipboard stickers, like the ‘Hello Weekend’ sticker below:

@ The Cold Shore by Jennifer Grace

All finished off with a good scattering of gems of course!

Will you join in the challenge this month? There will be a prize for one winner (donated by Annie) and a few of the favourite entries will be featured on the SJ Crafts blog soon afterwards. Don’t forget to check out the challenge details, and see the sample layouts by the rest of the team, right HERE!

Bye for now,

February Challenge at SJ Crafts (+winner from my happy giveaway)

Hello everyone! I feel like I still haven’t finished moving house, because I am tripping over boxes everywhere… of course my scrap space is all neatly unpacked and tidy so that’s the important bit!

While I finish sorting out boxes, there’s a couple of things to tell you. The winner of my ‘I’m Moving House and I’m Happy’ Giveaway will be announced at the bottom of this post, but before that here’s a sketch that I created for the SJ Crafts blog:

Feb 2014 SJ Crafts Challenge - Sketch by Jennifer Grace

This sketch is for the February Challenge – there’s going to be a challenge every month but it might be a sketch, colour palette, technique, or maybe a photo for inspiration! You can take up the challenge yourself and a few favourite entries will be shared on the SJ Crafts blog!

I based the sketch on this layout, which you’ve seen HERE before:

Muddy Puddles layout by Jennifer Grace

Which uses lots of items from My Mind’s Eye including bits from the Charm and Chalk Studio ranges.

However your layout wouldn’t need to look anything like mine, head over to the February Challenge post at SJ Crafts and take a look at the varied inspiration from the Design Team, there’s so many fabulous projects all starting from one sketch!

Finally, here’s the randomly drawn winner of  the ‘I’m moving house and I’m happy’ giveaway, drumroll please….

You are the winner! I already have your mailing address, so I’m going to go ahead and send the prize out to you!

Thanks very much to everyone that entered! I hope you all have a great week,

Hello!  How is everyone? I am happy because my internet is working again after the house move… how I’ve missed you blog land!

In the meantime a layout of mine went live HERE at the SJ Crafts blog! It’s this layout:

I Believe We Can Make Magic:

I Believe We Can Make Magic by Jennifer Grace

It’s about how magic is real because we make it ourselves… and I made a little magic with the crafting too, by using some Jenni Bowlin Doilies and Tiny Trims Rub Ons to alter some Chipboard Stickers, and changing the colour of the Prima White Canvas Alphas!

Colouring Letters

Go check out the post HERE to see more details. Also, two new Design Team members were announced HERE, please welcome them to the SJ Crafts team!

A Decorated Frame for the New Year (and beyond!)

Hello! I’m stopping by to let you know I have a new project up at the SJ Crafts Blog. It’s this decorated frame:

New Year Frame by Jennifer Grace

Which I made to welcome in the New Year, though the central panel is just pegged in, so it can be easily changed as the year goes by!

I decorated the edge of the frame with some Jenni Bowlin Tiny Trims Gold Rubs Ons:

And I used a variety of other bits and pieces including some Jenni Bowlin Gold Doily Rub Ons, some Prima White Canvas Alphas, Simple Stories Daily Grind Chipboard Stickers, and Studio Calico’s Tiny Stars Wood Veneers to decorate the panel!

Frosty Festivities Christmas & Winter

A Giveaway! Sponsored by SJ Crafts! {NOW CLOSED}

(This post is part of my Frosty Festivities 2013 Blog Event)

Our first sponsored giveaway {GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED} of the weekend is from the wonderful Sarah at SJ Crafts, a fast-growing and fabulous online shop!

shop logo blog

I am so grateful that Sarah and I have become friends. It’s great to have someone to chat about paper, embellies, paper, family life, and more paper with! The shop is getting new goodies in all the time, and there some lovely Christmas and/or winter themed items in stock right now. Here’s a few of my favourites that I haven’t got my hands on yet…

1. Crate Paper Bundled Up Photo Overlays – I have already bought most of the Bundled Up collection, but haven’t got these yet – I thought maybe I didn’t need them as I often use PicMonkey to edit photos, so I can do overlays on there. But I keep looking at these again, thinking that it would be great to have something on hand to transform an already-printed photo, plus I’ve seen other people using them tucked into page layers or for framing embellishments, so I am very, very tempted:

Crate Paper Bundled Up Photo Overlays

2. Hero Arts Red Gemstones – You know I love gems, right?! I’ve used up a whole pack of red gemstones while preparing for this event, so these are definitely going in my basket soon:

3. Echo Park ‘Tis The Season Collection Kit – I am liking the chalkboard trend a lot, and I love how it’s mixed with really traditional images in this collection. The only reason I haven’t got this yet is because I’m still using up the last of their This & that Christmas collection from last year – once that’s down to tiny scraps I’ll be allowed to buy this one – if there’s any left by then!

Now for the giveaway. One lucky commenter will receive:

A Collection Kit of their choice from the SJ Crafts Shop!

All you have to do to try and win the prize, is to pop over to ‘LIKE’ the SJ Crafts Facebook page (if you haven’t already), and leave a post/message there thanking SJ Crafts for sponsoring! If you aren’t a member of Facebook then you can visit the shop and leave a comment below saying what item catches your eye – but it must be something that me and the other commenters have not mentioned!

This giveaway will close at 10.59pm GMT on Monday 11th November. The winner will be announced on Thursday 14th November. The giveaway is open internationally. Please make sure you tell me how to contact you if you win! {GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED}

What winter or Christmas items have you got on your wish list? See you again in 60 minutes!
