Goodbye Scrap365

Earlier this week I had some sad news – that Scrap365 would be no more.

The magazine itself had already closed, but with supplements set to continue in the Craft Stamper magazine, plus a digital issue and the blog were supposed carry on. But now the supplement, digital issue, and blog are all closing too.

Us members of the Scrap 365 Sketch Challenge Design Team had already created our layout for the new sketch that was due to go live today. Now instead of sharing it as a new sketch challenge we are instead sharing our pages as a final farewell piece of inspiration.

Here’s the sketch my page was based on:

December Scrap 365 Sketch

And my page…

Chilled:

Chilled by Jennifer Grace for December Sketch

I made a wintry beach layout, using a variety of bits and pieces from my stash, including stickers and ephemera, and a paint sample card from a DIY shop – because the paint was called ‘By The Seashore’:

My favourite bit of the layout is the boats I stamped onto the background using grey ink, they are quite subtle so they look like they are glimpsed through a winter mist:

If you want to check out the final pages from the rest of the sketch DT, and maybe say goodbye, then head to THIS POST on the Scrap 365 blog. But hurry, because I’m not sure how long the blog will be left open for viewing.

Thank you to Scrap 365 for giving me the opportunity to be on the team, and especially to Ali Parris, who is a wonderful enthusiastic and supportive soul, I wish her all the best for her future endeavours.

I will be back again tomorrow to reveal the challenge winners from FF2014.

Bye for now,

This month there’s a prize of goodies from Mixed Media Place up for grabs, so make sure you play along!

Here’s my page for inspiration…

Golden Glow:

Golden Glow layout by Jennifer Grace for Scrap365

I was in a very autumnal moon when I was creating this, can you tell?!

For this page I delved into all kinds of items in my stash (including some Happy Scatter bits and pieces). If you want to check out how I put the page together, and why I chose certain items, you can watch my Page Process video, either below or by clicking through to the You Tube link HERE.

One of my favourite things I used was the journal card… some of you may recognise it from THIS POST from June where I talked about updating pocket cards:

The squirrel sticker gave it the perfect feel for the page!

I used nice bright alphas for the word ‘glow’ so it seems to shine from the background:

Spritzing the Let’s Gather sunset 3×4 card to a happy yellow helped to bring out that hue in the leaves in the photo:

Making this page made me want to go wandering through some golden woods again. Fingers crossed for some sunshine on the walk I have planned for today!

If you like my You Tube video please give it a ‘thumbs up’ and Subscribe to My Channel.

In Cape Town Layout Process Video

Hello,

I mentioned that I did record a process video for my ‘In Capetown’ layout (that I originally shared HERE) – well I’ve finally finished editing it! Actually it’s recording the voice over that takes the longest, as I can only do that when the house is quiet – not very often with 2 kiddies in the house!

Anyway, here’s the video if you’d like to see me put the page together:

Remember to give it a ‘thumbs up’ if you enjoy watching! Thanks for checking it out!

There’s still about a week left to enter the sketch challenge, you could win this prize from 7gypsies:

Don’t miss your chance to win! Link up your pages at the Scrap365 blog.

Finally, did you know the new Scrap365 Digital supplement is available? Check it out!

Scrap 365 October Sketch – In Cape Town Layout & Free Cut File!

It’s time for the Scrap 365 October Sketch Challenge!

This month I have a Free Cut File of a Sketchy Circle to share with you, so keep reading – there’s a PNG version too if you want to print it!

Here’s the new sketch:

October 2014 Sketch at Scrap 365

This month is sponsored by 7 Gypsies!

7 Gypsies

You can enter to win a fabulous prize from them. They also sent some goodies out to us lucky team members. I was able to play with the Serengeti collection, which is Africa themed. I’ve never been to Africa but my sister spent a few months there at the start of the year, and I spent those few months gasping at her beautiful photos as she posted them on Facebook! So I asked her if I could use one of them for this page…

In Cape Town:

That’s my little sister visiting Table Mountain!

See the circles on the background? That’s the Free Cut File I designed. I’d used gold embossing powder to make circles last month, so I didn’t want to draw some again, and I thought about using thread to make circles but decided they wouldn’t be bold enough, so I made a cut file to use on my Cricut Explore instead.

If you want this file too (for personal use only please) you can download it as an SVG here, or as a PNG here.

They look great cut from the lighter text paper, positioned on the dark background – the contrast shows them up nicely so they don’t get lost within all the embellishments:

I used some gold mist to stain the vintage photo at the bottom left, and then inked the edges of it brown, so the colours blended with the page:

I also delved into my stash for an assortment of bits & pieces to scatter around the page!

I did record a video for this page, but I haven’t managed to finish editing it yet – as soon as I do I’ll let you know!

That’s it from me today. Don’t forget to check out the Scrap 365 blog for more inspiration, there’s lots of amazing pages from the rest of the DT.

I’ll see you again soon,

Scrap 365 September Sketch – Ride Time Layout & Process Video

Hello all. Sorry I haven’t been by much, our internet is still not fixed (nb: don’t use Talk Talk if you can help it), we’re switching to another company so it will be fixed, but not for another 3 weeks! This is driving me crazy!

In the meantime, today’s the reveal for the Scrap 365 September Sketch Challenge:

September 2014 Sketch at Scrap 365

This month the prize has been donated by American Crafts, so make sure you enter to try and win a bundle of goodies!

Here’s my layout for some inspiration…

Ride Time:

Ride Time by Jennifer Grace - September Sketch for Scrap365

Fun and colourful, right?! I pulled lots of American Crafts items from my stash to use (from collections including Plus One, Cut & Paste, and Mayberry) since they were sponsoring the challenge and all. But I used other items too, including the background paper which is from the Simple Stories Good Day Sunshine collection. It took me a while to choose that as my background paper though… I explain my choice for this and other details on this Page Process video:

Here’s a better look at the close up details…

Ride Time by Jennifer Grace - September Sketch for Scrap365

I loved how I could lift the edges of the letters on the ‘OXOX’ tag from the Plus One collection up to slide them over the photo and patterned paper.

In the above photo you can see a bit how much the gold embossing powder shines in the light and makes the whole page extra special!

What do you think? If you like my YouTube video please give it a ‘Thumbs Up’ and Subscribe to My Channel.

Don’t forget to check out the Scrap 365 Blog for more inspiration from the DT – some today and some tomorrow!

I’ll see you again, hopefully not too long in the future…

Scrap 365 August Sketch – Victorian Madam Layout

Hello everyone!

It’s time for the Scrap 365 August Sketch Challenge! Here’s the sketch:

Scrap 365 August Sketch Challenge 2014

This month the winner will receive some Glitz products from Stampbox, so make sure you join in!

Here’s my layout for some inspiration…

Victorian Madam:

Victorian Madam by Jennifer Grace for Scrap 365 August 2014 Sketch Challenge

The sketch team were challenged to use OLD STASH for this month’s page, so I pulled out a whole heap of unloved supplies. This pile is what I started with, a kind of ‘kit’ to match my photo – the items are mostly around 3 years old, some are older:

1

To start the page off I began by making a square-ish paper stack for my photo, and then tried it out on a few different shades of cardstock:

Trying out colours

I decided I liked the cream shade on the right the most.

I checked the sketch again and noted the strips of thinner paper at the top and the bottom of the sketch, so I made some too:

5

Then I started adding embellishments to my page. One way I find it easier to use up larger paper or chipboard pieces is to cut them in half – the yellow flower would have looked too gaudy as a whole flower, but just half of it peeking out from the paper stack looks really pretty:

When I had almost finished my page I added the journaling, but then the page looked too busy along the bottom edge:

7

Luckily I had used removable Herma tape-runner dots, so I was able to pull up the strips of paper and add a thinner strip instead, which makes the page look a bit cleaner:

I also had to move this phrase sticker over from where I’d originally planned to put it, because I hadn’t left space for my title! I like it even better here though, as it draws your attention down to my daughter’s eyes:

And here’s the whole page again so you don’t have to scroll back up:

What do you think, does this tempt you to go rummaging through some old stash to see if you can breathe new life into it? The only newer items I used on here were the alpha stickers for my title, the cardstock, and a couple of gems. I am very pleased to have used a few older papers and embellishments!

Don’t forget to check out the Scrap 365 Blog to see the samples from the rest of the Design Team and to maybe enter the challenge yourself!

Bye for now,

Scrap 365 July Sketch – Hey Look layout & process video

It’s time for the Scrap 365 July Sketch Challenge! Here’s the sketch (based on artwork by Ali Parris):

Scrap 365 July 2014 Sketch Challenge

This month the fabulous 7 Dots Studio is sponsoring the sketch, one lucky participant will win these goodies:

7 DOTS - Scrap 365 July 2014 Sketch Prize

They’ll be so happy!

7 Dots Studio were also kind enough to send goodies for the sketch team too, I was able to play with the Illumination collection… here’s my page…

Hey Look:

Hey Look by Jennifer Grace for Scrap 365 July 2014 Sketch using 7 Dots Studio Illumination

This captures a moment of my daughter and her friend discovering things together!

Here’s a page process video showing you how I put it together:

(If you like the video please give it a ‘thumbs up’ and subscribe to My You Tube Channel to encourage me to make more videos!)

Here’s some close up shots and a bit about my page choices, in case you aren’t able to watch the video…

I used the ‘Simple Life’ sticker on top of the ‘Laugh’ sticker, because I added the circular one first and then decided I didn’t like how it ‘broke’ the edge of the photo. It was too distracting. Because the ‘Simple Life’ sticker has a straight edge and a paler colour it stopped the photo from looking broken:

Hey Look by Jennifer Grace for July Sketch Detail 1

The ‘Find Happiness In The Little Things’ was a large tag  which I really wanted to use, but I couldn’t work out how to fit it on my page. So I simply cut it to be a square phrase instead:

Hey Look by Jennifer Grace for July Sketch Detail 2

I added a little splash of colour to the top left of the page with some roller stamping and washi tape:

What do you think, are you up for a sketch challenge? Don’t forget to check out the Scrap 365 Blog to see the other examples from the DT (and to enter your layout!).

Bye for now, Jennifer x

Disclosure: I received the 7 Dots Studio Illumination kit  for free which helped me write this post but all views are my own.
