Refresh Your Craft and Soul Prizes at Jennifer Grace Creates

Lots of lovely goodies there!

Have you enjoyed the event? I’ve loved reading all your comments, thank you so much for stopping by and sharing what you think!

If you have enjoyed the event, I’d be really grateful if you can pin or share the projects you like. And make sure you are signed up to my ‘News’ emails (aweber form in sidebar) and then you’ll be the first to hear about the next event (I’ll probably be back with Frosty Festivities again in November!). News emails are rarely sent out – normally only when I have a giveaway or an event approaching, so you won’t be bombarded with mail!

If you have any questions or suggestions about how these events are run, then don’t hesitate to contact me at jennifergrace(at)hotmail(dot)co(dot)uk!

Before I leave you completely I’ve one last card to share… I was trying to make a beach-themed male birthday card:

Beach Hut Card by Jennifer Grace

I think I almost pulled it off, but I wish I’d used a less twiddly stamp for the sentiment. I don’t like making male cards, they are so much harder!

The star-type shape on the background is a chipboard piece that I heat embossed and tipped gold glitter onto while I was heating the powder, I’m going to be doing that again experimenting with other colours!

That’s it! The giveaway winners will be announced on Thursday the 12th of June, so check back to see if you’ve won!

Stay refreshed,

My Favourite Way To Cleanse – Refresh Layout

(This post is part of my Refresh Your Craft & Soul Blog Event – see the beginning HERE!)

In my word of the year page (HERE) I mentioned that I wanted to spend more time in the sea. Going for a swim in the sea is my favourite way to cleanse, and the cold English sea doesn’t put me off at all – I just run in quick before I can change my mind!

Here’s a layout all about it…

Refresh:

It shows my sister, me, and my mum in the sea last year!

To make a splash-filled background I used my Happy Scatter Raindrops Stencil, but I turned it around so the water drops were bouncing upwards (I stuck the stencil down with low-tack masking tape so it wouldn’t move about):

Then I mixed some modelling paste with some aqua acrylic paint:

And spread the mixture through the stencil using an old library card:

While it was still wet I lifted off the stencil (and cleaned it quickly) then shook some blue glitter over the top for a bit of subtle shimmer:

And left it to dry before shaking off the excess.

I also added extra detail to a glass nugget, by putting some Glossy Accents on the back and tipping on some chunky glitter:

After it was dry I could turn it over, so it looks like the shimmering sea when you look down into it:

I also used the Refresh Free Cut File for my title:

I used an Elle’s Studio tag to list the reasons I love to swim in the sea:

And I used one of my Seaside Smiles Wood Veneers, a whale, to make the page feel extra happy:

Just look at his cute little smile!

Refreshing My Clothes with the Cricut Explore

(This post is part of my Refresh Your Craft & Soul Blog Event – see the beginning HERE!)

You may have seen the Cute Pony Vest me and my daughter made for her to wear, but I wanted something of my own refreshed with some fun shapes!

I altered a skirt…

We’ve established before that I love to Wear Pretty Skirts, so this is perfect for me!

Here’s how the skirt looked before the pretty additions (I bought the skirt at Primark):

Nice but a bit boring!

To start off my project I put the skirt on my dining table and piled the iron-on-vinyls that I might want to use on top, so I could see which colours I liked against the skirt:

Then I opened the Design Space software and changed the canvas to a skirt, adjusting the size and colour to be close to my own:

I uploaded my ‘Refresh’ Free Cut File and changed it to white by clicking on the shape in the layers panel, then inserted an anchor image (#M2FDBA changed to grey) and a whale image (#M415A4) which I flipped by clicking on the mirror icon in the edit panel:

I also changed the whale to a bolder blue, and changed the whale’s spray of water to the same colour. Then I selected the whale and the spray together and clicker ‘attach’ so they would cut as one shape.

Next I wanted some basic fish but I couldn’t find any in the Cricut images (they were all fancy fishes!), so rather than looking elsewhere for a cut file I decided to make my own basic fish in the Design Space software. I just inserted an oval (#M373D9) and a triangle (#M46F05), then rotated / stretched them how I wanted to, overlapped them to make the fish shape, and highlighted them both by dragging a box over them:

Then I just clicked ‘weld’ and they joined into one shape:

Then I could just reshape and copy + paste for more fishes!

I finished off with a few stars (#M470B4):

And clicked ‘go’! When the Mat Preview screen comes up I had to remember to click ‘Mirror Image for Iron-On’ for each mat:

And then I started cutting. I set the dial on the machine to iron-on for the iron-on lite materials, and clicked it up a notch to iron-on+ for the glitter iron-on material.

Once they were cut I just weeded out the unwanted vinyl – the iron-on stuff comes on a plastic sheet so you don’t have to use transfer tape:

Then I got ready to iron! Make sure you iron doesn’t have a steam setting on. I use mine on a medium heat setting. And you should warm up the area where you’re going to stick the vinyl before placing it on top. Use some greaseproof paper over vinyl / plastic when you are ironing too!

I ironed them on one colour at a time, but it soon all came together:

I love it! It’s so seasidey and happy!
