And here’s what I created… I did record a process video while making this layout, but we’ve had a few visitors come and stay so I haven’t had time to finish that off. I will try and post it at some point though!

Hot Forest:

Hot Forest layout by Jennifer Grace

It’s about one very hot walk we took in the local forest last summer, it was baking hot!

I flipped the sketch a little because I had a portrait orientation main photo.

Do you spot some lovely wood shapes on here? The Deer, Owl and Mushrooms are some of the lovely new Scrap 365 Wooden Shapes:

Scrap365 Wood Shapes

Did you know Scrap 365 were selling these now? There’s so many cute shapes to choose from!

I painted the deer below with Heidi Swapp Coral Colour Shine and white acrylic paint, for the mushroom I used blue and white acrylic paint:

I left the owl up near the journaling plain because it was so detailed and pretty that I didn’t want to spoil it:

The cog and the hot air balloon wood shapes are from the Prima Cartographer Collection:

I love how the soft papers from this collection make the layout feel warm and peaceful!

Are you going to take on the Scrap 365 Challenge this month? I hope so! Runners up will receive a copy of Scrap 365!

Scrap 365 April Sketch & World Book Day Layout!

Hello all,

Today is the reveal of the Scrap 365 April Sketch Challenge and I can share the page I’ve made for it!

Here’s the sketch, based on Artwork by Lisa Saunders:

Scrap 365 April Sketch Challenge

This month the sponsor is Papercraft Scandinavia / Inkido – here’s a little bit about them:

Papercraft Scandinavia is a manufacturer that design and make unique material for scrapbooking, cardmaking and other craftings.
We design stamps, patterned paper, lace, flowers and much more in romantic vintage style. Our products are of high standard, inspiring and amazing to create with.

They very kindly sent a few papers for us to play with, mine were from the Beautiful Memories collection. They were very prettily pink, and perfect for a girl page…

World Book Day:

World Book Day Layout by Jennifer Grace

This year for World Book Day my daughter went to school as Daisy from ‘Darkness Slipped In’ by Ella Burfoot, which is about a girl who isn’t afraid of the dark, in fact she teaches a personified darkness to dance and twirl! Little Miss had to take the book to school to show everyone who she was as most people hadn’t heard of it, I love that she was sharing a story she loves with her friends.

For her costume I bought a cheap pink dress and added white felt flowers to the bottom of it, with yellow buttons in the centres. I added a similar white flower (but a paper one this time) to my page. I also made a paper bow (following this technique but on a larger scale) to echo the bow on her dress – I made it with text paper because the layout was about a book:

I added my usual scattering of pretty little details, but I tried to keep them close to the areas of detail on the sketch – it did spread out quite a bit but that’s just how I roll!:

I was glad to have an opportunity to use these sparkly pink alphas that have been in my stash for a while!

Are you going to try The Sketch? The winners will receive some scrappy goodies, and the runners up will receive a recent copy of Scrap365 too.

Don’t forget to check out the inspiration from the other Sketch DT members!

Bye for now, Jennifer x

Scrap365 March Sketch & Pink Noses Page!

Hello everyone!

It’s time to reveal the Scrap365 March Sketch Challenge and my layout based on it!

Here’s the sketch, which is based on artwork by Riikka Kovasin:

March Scrap365 Sketch Challenge

The sponsor this month is Lemon Owl – they are offering a fantastic prize of 3 collections to a lucky winner! We DT ladies were very excited to be sent some of their products to play with – I received some items from the Cozy Winter collection and I loved playing with them for the grey, pink, and hint-of-lime-green colours!

Here’s my page…

Pink Noses:

I moved the lines from the top right corner of the sketch over to the top left corner, but then I still felt the right corner needed something, so I cut a few triangles from the papers and added them and one of the die cuts to my page using 3D foam dots:

Pink Noses by Jennifer Grace

Also in the above photo you can see I added some gold embroidery thread as a border on the ‘I {heart} Winter’ die cut, to help it stand out more!

I added some sequins to the journaling card, I dropped them on and then picked them up one by one to use some Glossy Accents to stick them where they had fallen:

I also jazzed up the lime green card by adding the word ‘Cherish’, plus a white heart paperclip, a gem, and a bit of a gold glitter line sticker:

I love this photo of my two children, with their cute pink noses from being out in the cold!

Don’t forget to check out the samples from the rest of the Sketch Team at the Scrap365 Blog! And make sure you enter to try and win the prize this month!

Bye for now,

February Challenge at SJ Crafts (+winner from my happy giveaway)

Hello everyone! I feel like I still haven’t finished moving house, because I am tripping over boxes everywhere… of course my scrap space is all neatly unpacked and tidy so that’s the important bit!

While I finish sorting out boxes, there’s a couple of things to tell you. The winner of my ‘I’m Moving House and I’m Happy’ Giveaway will be announced at the bottom of this post, but before that here’s a sketch that I created for the SJ Crafts blog:

Feb 2014 SJ Crafts Challenge - Sketch by Jennifer Grace

This sketch is for the February Challenge – there’s going to be a challenge every month but it might be a sketch, colour palette, technique, or maybe a photo for inspiration! You can take up the challenge yourself and a few favourite entries will be shared on the SJ Crafts blog!

I based the sketch on this layout, which you’ve seen HERE before:

Muddy Puddles layout by Jennifer Grace

Which uses lots of items from My Mind’s Eye including bits from the Charm and Chalk Studio ranges.

However your layout wouldn’t need to look anything like mine, head over to the February Challenge post at SJ Crafts and take a look at the varied inspiration from the Design Team, there’s so many fabulous projects all starting from one sketch!

Finally, here’s the randomly drawn winner of  the ‘I’m moving house and I’m happy’ giveaway, drumroll please….

You are the winner! I already have your mailing address, so I’m going to go ahead and send the prize out to you!

Thanks very much to everyone that entered! I hope you all have a great week,

I’m on the SCRAP 365 Sketch DT!! February Sketch + Layout!

Whoop! Here’s some fun news today… I am now on the SCRAP 365 Sketch Design Team! How exciting is that?!

I'm On The SCRAP 365 Sketch Team

For those of you who don’t know, SCRAP 365 is a beautiful magazine published here in the UK, featuring all kinds of tips and tutorials and lovely layouts. Each month they have a sketch challenge on the blog, which you can enter to try and win a prize. I’ll be designing a layout each month based on the sketch to give you some inspiration, but make sure you check out the inspiration from the other design team members too!

Here’s the February Sketch:

SCRAP 365 Sketch Challenge for February 2014

And here’s my layout…

The Ceilidh:

The Ceilidh by Jennifer Grace

These photos were taken at a Ceilidh last February, which one of my friends (Ali) helped to organise. Me and another friend (Rosie) had assisted making the paper flowers for the table decorations! We danced the night away, in a big hall which had a dinosaur hanging from the ceiling – an art project, not a real skeleton!

I wanted my page to reflect the fun we had, so I used bright colours and some sparkly gems which are both very ME! I like how the lines of black gems ‘glam’ the page up a bit so it looks more like an evening party:

The Ceilidh by Jennifer Grace

I had to layer up some paper flowers near the picture of the paper flowers… it wouldn’t be right otherwise would it?!

The Ceilidh by Jennifer Grace

I added a bit of extra sparkle to this ‘Good Stuff’ tag (from Amy Tangerine Cut & Paste) by painting a thin line of Mod Podge along the cirle and sprinkling on some tinsel glitter:

The Ceilidh by Jennifer Grace

It twinkles like the evening did!

Go and see the announcement of my DT place, and inspiration from another lovely lady, right HERE! You can enter the challenge by creating a scrapbooking related project of your own, uploading it online somewhere, and adding it to the linky tool in the sidebar of the SCRAP 365 blog. Good luck!

P.S. If you’re new to my blog I have a giveaway running at the moment, check it out HERE.

Time To Selfie, Sister (Sketchbook 365 Entry)

Hello, how is everyone? Apparently I’m still not in the mood for Christmas scrapbooking – today I’ve got a layout with a photo from the joint birthday party I shared with my sister in June 2012. I was drawn to the bright colours in the picture!

Time To Selfie, Sister:

Time To Selfie, Sister layout by Jennifer Grace

In case anyone doesn’t know, a ‘selfie’ is a photo taken by yourself, at arms length (not using a timer/tripod). My sister is amazing at taking these so we always take one (or several) when we’re together!

This layout is an entry into the Sketchbook 365 Sketch Challenge. I was following this sketch based on a layout by Birgit Koopsen:

Sketch based on a layout by Birgit Koopsen

As my photo was landscape I rotated the sketch to have the bulk of embellishments and details below the photo.

I used lots of Glitz Design items on this page, because after I finished off my Baby Girl Mini Book, I sorted out the box which I store Glitz in, and came across lots of things I’d forgotten about, like the ‘Choose Happiness’ paper from Uncharted Waters, the ‘Hello’ Sticker from Sunshine In My Soul, and the ‘Make it Happen’ phrase from Color Me Happy (which I decorated with an umbrella wood veneer from Freckled Fawn, some Tiny Stars Wood Veneers by Studio Calico, a Finnley Giant Rhinestone by Glitz, and some Waco Pearl Pen dots):

Time To Selfie, Sister layout by Jennifer Grace

The big pieces of patterned paper in the background (Finnley Floral and Bows) were the biggest pieces of Glitz that I had left, but they didn’t quite meet up where I’d cut bits out of them. So I covered up a gap using the ‘Love This’ phrase from Color Me Happy:

Time To Selfie, Sister layout by Jennifer Grace

I also added a cluster of hearts above the ‘Hello’ sticker, using a Wild & Free Giant Rhinestone with a pattern of hearts, a Freckled Fawn Wood Veneer, and a Papermania red heart gem, to echo the heart in the sketch!

Ah, this page is so happy and summery! I’m not in total denial about the time of year though, I have been pouring through recipe books and planning some food to bake, and Santa knocked on our door last night, so I know Christmas is truly on the way! Are you crafting for the festive season right now?

The Sketch Challenge is open until the 13th of December, and they have a huge prize for one entrant, so check it out. They also announced a Design Team call for the sketch team today, which is HERE if you might be interested!

Elle’s Studio Sketch Projects

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas, as I’m busy preparing for my Frosty Festivities free blog event! (If you missed out on the details, see HERE, where there’s also a giveaway with a few days left to enter!). I’ve been watching festive movies while I’m crafting to get me in the mood – I used to say Christmas must not be mentioned until December, but since I discovered blogging I start earlier and earlier!

To remind me that it is still Autumn at the moment, here’s a few non-Christmas projects, starting with a Thanks card with a few leaves for fall! All 3 projects on today’s post use Elle’s Studio sketches, which I love to work with – though my projects usually end up busier than the sketch!

Best Friends Thanks Card:

Best Friend Thanks card by Jennifer Grace

This card is based on the most recent Sketch from Thursday 31st October:

Elle's Studio sketch 10.31

I thought it was an excellent opportunity to use the ‘thanks’ bunting from the Everyday Greetings Printables! I used lots of happy colours from different Elle’s collections, and I think the leaves add the perfect ‘fall’ touch. A couple of the leaves are stuck flat, and a couple are on pop-dots, to add depth.

Big Bite Layout:

I started with the Sketch from the 3rd of October for this page:

Elle's Studio sketch 10.03

My son absolutely loves fruit, he will happily munch down a whole apple, core and all! I added lots of lovely gems and sequins, but the bold colours stop it from looking girly:

Big Bite layout by Jennifer Grace

For the lines behind the photo on the sketch I used lots of branding strips – I love how Elle’s Studio papers come with one patterned side of the branding strip:

I stitched some Day-To-Day Tidbits together to make some bunting, and stuck them on with pop-dots (the pie-chart makes me think of apple pie!):

Be the Belle Layout:

This layout was based on the Sketch from Thursday October 24th:

Elle's Studio sketch 10.24

This page has a photo of my sister from the joint Disney-themed birthday party we had last year. She looked gorgeous as Belle from Beauty and the Beast:

I hid some journaling about my sister and our Disney love:

Be the Belle layout by Jennifer Grace

And as her birthday was the big 21 I made sure to include that number on the page, with a few gems around it of course:

Be the Belle layout by Jennifer Grace

I have made a page before with another sheet of this You & Me ‘Chalk Love’ paper, you can see the previous page HERE. I bought a second sheet of the paper because I loved it so much, and by rotating the paper for this layout, and using much bolder colours, I’ve ended up with a very different page. The layouts will be in separate albums too so that’s okay!

So there we go, a few non-festive projects before this blog is overrun with winter and Christmas inspiration!

What do you think of my takes on the Elle’s Studio sketches? Do you ever follow sketches – if so do you stick close to the original or change-it-up a lot?

Bye for now, Jennifer x
