Christmas Pudding Gift Bag Tutorial!

I’ve got a fun gift-wrap idea for you now – a cute Christmas pudding bag! I’ve seen lots of this type of project, often used to make paper pumpkins like the one here and here. But then this project here caught my eye, because they’d used the same method to make a favour bag for macaroons! I thought it would make a great way to give handmade biscuits for Christmas presents!

Here’s how it’s done…

Step 1: Cut two circles of brown cardstock approx 3½” diameter, and twenty-two strips of brown cardstock measuring 9″ x 1″. My strips are actually 12″ x 1″ in the photo below, but I got to a certain point and realised they were too long:

Step 2: Hot-glue the end of the strips around the edges of one circle, overlapping each one by about half an inch. Then hot glue the other circle on top to hide the ends:

Step 3: Punch a hole in the non-glued end of each strip, and thread bakers twine through them all:

Step 4: Thread the bakers thread through the first hole again so you’ve gone all the way around, and then pull the twine tight so the pudding is formed. This was when the strips were still 12″ long and I realised the pudding was huge:

So I cut 3″ off each strip and repeated the twine process!

Step 5: Make a template for the cream on top by drawing a large circle onto a piece of paper (I drew around a plate 7½” diameter). Then draw a wiggly line all around it:

Step 6: Cut it out along the wiggly line, and then use it as a template to cut the cream from white felt. Pierce a hole through the middle and thread the bakers twine through the hole:

Step 7: Finish off the top of the pudding with two holly leaves cut from green patterned paper, and two red holly berries. My berries are kids craft pom-poms, I threaded one onto each strand of bakers twine using a darning needle. The only trouble with these is that the gift recipient couldn’t put them back on again if they wanted to re-do the parcel, so some big red beads might be better if you have them:

Step 8: Fill with homemade biscuits or another fun gift this Christmas (these ones aren’t homemade I’m afraid). I would probably wrap the cookies in greaseproof paper too when I’m actually gifting them. Or you could use this as a table centrepiece for your festive meals – you could even hide a pudding inside:

You should really try making one of these, it made me stupidly giggly with delight when I’d put it all together!
